Year 7 Manager, Kathryn Yates writes about how our new Year 7 students are settling in and how they are reflecting our core values:
As the Year 7 Manager I have the pleasure of being able to meet our new students at their primary schools and tell them about Heart of England. I particularly like to share our core values of Honesty, Determination, Humour Kindness and Courage with them. These core values are shared by all students, staff and governors at Heart of England.
Since September I have witnessed students who have truly embraced these values and have made me feel very proud to be part of this community. Moving to secondary school is a big step for 11 year olds and they have shown such determination and courage as well as kindness to their fellow students.
For some students this term has been especially challenging and one of our cohort, Tako has not been able to join us yet as he is in hospital with aplastic anemia. He is in need of a suitable donor so the search is on to help to find one for him and others with the disease who need a donor.
On the last day of term, our generous students and staff will take part in a non-uniform day with the theme of Christmas jumpers/Christmas colours. It will be in aid of the Anthony Nolan Trust, a donor register and fundraising charity and Save the Children, a children’s health, education and child protection charity.
Tako’s dad said: “Tako is very courageous and his courage has helped everyone, keeping everyone going.” I had the privilege of meeting Tako at his primary school and we are looking forward to welcoming him to our school.
