Despicable Art Goes up in Smoke!

Students from Heart of England have been asked to paint a bonfire mural to see it go up in flames.

Each year the Balsall Common Lions bonfire and fireworks feature a huge artwork piece at the front of the fire which will be burned as part of the celebrations.

Lions mural for bonfireThis year our students have painted a scene inspired on the theme of Despicable Me including the villainous Felonious Gru and several minions!  The large piece has taken two and a half days to complete and has been overseen by Lions' artist Alan Douglas.

Students Simran Aujla, Chelsea Chatterton, Amy Good, Debora la Porta, Amy Powell, Mia O'Hagan, Jasmine Padda, Jon Hick, Chloe Thomas and Isabell Wilson have worked hard but it has been worth it and they are looking forward to seeing their work so up in smoke with free tickets to the event. Mia said, "This was the largest piece I had ever worked on and it was good to be able to go with our own ideas."

Felonius GruLion President Mark Whitfield said, "It is absolutely amazing!", when he visited Heart of England to see the finished artwork.

The Lions Fireworks and Bonfire is on Saturday, November 8 in Meeting House Lane. Advanced tickets: £6.00 for adults, £3.00 for children and £15.00 for a family, available from Angela Jaynes Florest, the Motorist Shop, Balsall Common and Oakes Farm Shop.
