Sixth Form Enrichment: Sport & Recreation
In keeping with tradition across the country, Wednesday afternoons are dedicated to sport and recreation in our Sixth Form.
The PE department’s facilities are available for all Sixth Form students to use. Facilities include:
- Sports Hall
- Fitness/Weights Room
- State of the art Dance Studio
- Playing Fields
- Gymnasium
In addition to the recreational use of these facilities the department offer the opportunity to take part in more competitive sport. Where demand requires we field teams in different sports such as; Rugby, Netball and Football. We also have external coaches offering sessions in a variety of activities such as kick boxing and golf.
A number of our students undertook a series of golf lessons with the Head Golf Pro at Stonebridge Golf Centre. These lessons have been provided free of charge because of a PGA grant to encourage 16-18 year olds who are interested in golf. Liz Atherton, one of the students who took part reports:
"I always jump at new opportunities, so when golf came along I was really excited! It was a really nice place and the coaches were lovely. By the end of the six weeks I had hit several balls past the 100ft line, I was really proud as I’d only ever played crazy golf before. I really enjoyed the experience and was trying to find time to take it up as a hobby."
